Performance Saga Interviews
This is a collaborative project by the artist Andrea Saemann (*1962, see SAE 1–2) and the art historian Katrin Grögel (*1970). The Interviews series, published 2007-8, marked the beginning of their presentation of eight North American and European women pioneers of performance art. In 2008 and 2009, they staged three Performance Saga Festivals featuring 26 male and female artists in Bern, Lausanne and Basle. 2011 saw the publication of a comprehensive DVD documenting the three festivals, which included works by younger and older artists.

The Performance Saga Interviews DVD edition is a collection of video interviews with eight North American and European women pioneers of performance art in the 1960s and 70s. The artists were important figures for the development and establishment of this new form of artistic expression. The interviews are conducted by the artists Andrea Saemann (*1962) and Chris Regn (*1964), who is also the co-director of the women’s art archive bildwechsel in Hamburg. In these conversations, the artists talk about their works and the conditions under which these were produced, giving us insight into how they view themselves and how they think.
